Yesterday we took a trip to UC Davis. We woke up at 8:30 or so and had breakfast at home
We left the house at 10:00. Pappa was driving, Karin sitting shotgun, Mamma studying, Lisa next to her, and me reading a book in the very back seat.
When we got there around 11:30, there was some confusion to what tour group we would be in and we almost thought our group had left without us, but as it turns out, they hadn’t even been sent out yet.
As we toured the beautiful campus, it was clear that nature was very important to the school: there were trees everywhere, even a creak running through one side of the campus.
Also, there were bikes everywhere and most of the students we saw were on bikes…apparently there were more bikes than people!
We were told that the student to faculty ratio was, surprisingly, 16:1, and that even though this is the third largest UC, following LA and Berkley with 31,000 students, it still has a small town feel to it.
They offer a lot of student employment opportunities driving busses, working at the Silo (the only place with junk food on campus), and more. Also they have a really large gym that includes a large dance room, a suspended track, and lots of other stuff. They have three pools and they are big on horses, environmental science, psychology and anthropology, medicine, and more.
Their mascot is the Aggie, which is a type of horse. But they also have some unofficial mascots which are the Egg Heads. Around the campus there are large egg shaped heads that demonstrate different parts of Davis life.
Filled with trees and surrounded by nature, UC Davis is a beautiful place that’s not far from home.
